Single review: “BLOODY HOLIC” by Yuuka Nanri

Yuuka Nanri is a Japanese voice actress and singer and “BLOODY HOLIC” is her 6th single.

Release Date: 8th of July, 2013

Track List:
1. BLOODY HOLIC
2. snow wind
3. BLOODY HOLIC ~ Without Vocal
4. snow wind ~ Without Vocal

1.BLOODY HOLIC
Wow, she has a really high and fine voice. With this, clashing with some strong guitar chords open up the song. After a few seconds of this, the techno synths and rock-like beat soon recede and the sweet, faint vocals come back for a peaceful verse. I really liked how subtle and quiet the verses are, but sadly, it doesn’t stay like that for very long. After a while, we are treated to a techno-rock sort of chorus, with a lot of electric guitars a pianos. This tends to stay for the remaining chorus’ throughout the song. But, obviously, to get to the chorus, we need some verses! Which is what I really like in this song because of how pleasant it is. Although I don’t think I title like that suits a song like this. BLOODY HOLIC is a song that has a very up-beat and techno personality but switches to calm and peaceful backgrounds at times. But even so, this isn’t the type of song that needs to be thought highly of, it’s just very pleasant at times.

2.snow wind
So I’m guessing a song titled as snow wind is probably nice and serene, and that’s exactly what we find here. Yuuka’s lovely vocals are back and they really own this type of song, her vocals just blend well with these calm synths that we get from this song. There’s nice spacing in between the chorus and verses’ that really adds to the tranquil atmosphere. We get a song that is really different from the previous, though the vocals might be similar, the arrangements are very different. snow wind really plays well with her vocals, I think that this is the type of song that she is best suited with actually, instead of something like BLOODY HOLIC.

This doesn’t make an outstanding single, but it’s still a good one to have a casual listen to. BLOODY HOLIC is a very up-beat song that has a few personalities to it, while snow wind has just the one, but one that really compliments her vocals to make the song sound fairly impressive in my opinion.

Rating: 3/5

Austinatious out!!

  1. She was one of Yuki Kajiura’s projects FictionJunction YUUKA and got incredible songs like “cazador del amor” or nowhere or romanesque.
And those songs can really showcase YUUKA’s excellent voice.

  2. I was not too fond of this single. But actually I don’t like Yuuka much at all. I find her voice too high pitch for me to listen to for anything more than a short amount of time. Ah well suppose it’s just a matter of vocal taste ^_^
